Q: Smart ForTwo?
Does anyone own one of these cars? Please report how you like it, is it worth getting on the waiting list? They are so interesting..
A: It is interesting, but not for me.
No cargo room, slowest thing on the road, and still gets less mpg’s than a hybrid.
They are cheap…but they look cheap, too.
Q: What are your views on the Smart fortwo car?
Any opinions of the Smart fortwo? Likes/ dislikes. Any user opinions. All answers appreciated!
A: I owned one for three years and had no problems what-so-ever, other than normal wear. To change a headlight bulb the entire front end had to be removed which only took twenty minutes and 30 minutes to reinstall. It was cool to be able to hold the entire front fender assembly up with just one pinky finger. The front fenders are made out of a composite plastic. I thought the tires were rather expensive and an odd size (had to purchase from a Smart dealer) The car topped out at 84mph and averaged 52mpg driving through the center of Stuttgart everyday. I would own another one, if the price was not so high. I can purchase a well equipped Mini Cooper for the price of a Smart Car.
Q: Is it smart to buy a Smart Fortwo?
I’m thinking about buying a Smart Fortwo. Do you think buying a Mercedes-Benz decked out golf cart is a good choice to battle the rising gas prices?
A: no, if u get in a car accident with the smart fortwo then u will get crushed
Q: do you have to shift the smart fortwo?
Okay, i seen that the smart fortwo as a weird transmission, where you can shift on the wheel, or at the gear, do you have to shift it your self like a manual, or will the samrt do it for you?
A: If it has no clutch, then no matter what it is called, it is an automatic transmission. Unless the user specifically opts to interfere with its operation, it will behave like an automatic transmission as well.
Specifically, many cars come with “manu-matic” transmissions, but these are just automatic transmissions with a selectable mode the user can engage that doesn’t allow the trans to shift up or down without driver input. No different than shifting into a lower gear than “D” on any other automatic, but at least it has nice window-dressing.
Q: Can a smart fortwo car drive on a 2hr 30 min. trip on up, down, and curvy roads in the mountains?
My hometown is 2hrs and 20 mins away where I currently live right now and in order to get there, I will have to drive through the mountains going on a few up, down, and curvy roads on the highway. So I am wondering if a smart fortwo car is tough enough to handle those types of roads.
A: Honestly, I would call the dealership where you bought it and ask them! They would be more reputable than anyone on here. Unless someone on here has personal experience with that, or works for the company.
Q: Is the Smart Fortwo small car popular in the US?
can you often find Smart Fortwo on the streets? or they are just rare? it is a pretty safe car!
A: They are pretty rare here. Mainly because the diesel version isn’t sold in the U.S. only the gas engine is available here. The problem is that there are several more substantial cars that get nearly the same mileage as the Smart that do not require you make the sacrifices involved in Smart ownership. As for Smart being safe, when you run into stationary object the Smart does fine, but when you hit something bigger than the Smart (which is almost everything else on the road) you’re going to lose. You can’t engineer your way out of the laws of physics.
Q: Will the Smart Fortwo offered in the US have cruise control as an option?
The Smart Fortwo ultra small car will be offered in the US in 2008 through dealerships in the Penske automotive group. Will these cars have cruise control as an option? It’s not listed on their website anywhere (http://www.smartusa.com/ ).
A: The new model (451) smart Fortwo will not have cruise control.
Q: Do you think that the Smart Fortwo will be a succes in the US?
Smart Fortwo is a twoseater (DaimlerChrysler brand) with a small engine (600cc and a turbo) great milage..Funny car for big cities
if you want to see it fist..www.smartusa.com or smart.com
A: Yes I do. You will see it used more frequently in crowded areas like big cities and large campuses. It gets great gas milage and is small for better parking.
Q: How can i hack a smart fortwo car passenger airbag, to deactivate, without buing smart’s baby seat?
there is a seat that plugs somewhere in the floor and deactivates the airbag.
Maybe i can work around that and deactivate the air bag, in order to put my rear facing baby seat.
thanks
A: It helps to give the year, model, make and engine size when asking car questions. That being said – Open the door on the passenger side and see if there is a fuse module there – it will be on the side of the dash. If there is then there may be the fuse to the passenger side air bag. good luck
Q: How to open smart fortwo boot door manually? My remote does not work to open it neither does the leaver.?
I have checked on the fuse box and changed 31, doesn’t work. can i open it manually? Its a fortwo passion, 2009! thanks
A: As I recall there’s a lever on the tailgate of your smart. It’s sort of like those minivan type handles. It should open as long as all doors are unlocked
Q: I’m after a smart ForTwo – has anyone here got one/ driven one? How do you find it?
I’m booking a test drive soon, but I really like the amazingly large interior and the overall build quality seems good too. I’ve also been assured that the delay in the gear has been sorted, but I haven’t driven it yet (thisis the 09 model).
How do you find them to drive?
A: You obviously have a reason for looking at the Smart.
Plenty of people own them and there are no issues of real significance.
But… I would put my money elsewhere – like on a Mini or Fiesta / Focus ST
Q: How many years are the Smart fortwo’s supposed to last? How many miles?
I just want to know about these new cars and how long they lasted for the european owners.
A: had report from auto news that the vehicles engine is good for an easy 70,000 miles then basically throw it away, not a nice thing to hear but thousands have gone that way.
Q: Is the Smart ForTwo car safe to drive on a motorway?
I want to go from South West London to Hertfordshire. Is it safe to do so because of the car?
A: Perfectly safe, yes.
The Smart is one of the toughest small cars out there, and on a motorway, you’re going to be as safe in that as you are in anything else if a truck ploughs into you.
Q: I was thinking of getting a smart fortwo car as my next car. Is that a bad decision?
It will only be me and I do a lot of city driving. Any information would be great, thanks.
A: 2008 Smart ForTwo 33/41 mpg, $12,190
If you like it’s styling then sure.
It has poor handling, not the best mpg, and poor space.
When you say “city driving” do you mean San Francisco, Chicago, New York? A Smart would be good in that kind of “city driving”.
If not, there are better choices. Like a
Toyota Prius 48/45 mpg, $24,150
Honda Civic Hybrid 40/45 mpg, $24,220
Nissan Altima Hybrid 35/33 mpg, $27,345, (limited states)
VW Jetta diesel 29/40 mpg (coming soon, ~$20,000)
Honda Fit 28/35 mpg, $16,020
Toyota Corolla 27/35 mpg, $18,025
Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid 26/34 mpg, $24,545 (limited states)
Honda Civic 25/36 mpg, $17,625
Toyota Matrix 25/31 mpg, $20,325
Nissan Altima 23/31 mpg, $22,235
Mazda3 22/30 mpg, $18,365
All prices without rebates. With rebates and internet offers, the non-hybrids can get to be nice prices.
Q: Is the Mercedes A Class and the Smart Fortwo the same car?
Both of these look exactly the same to me.
A: no they are different cars. The Smart division is part of MB company but they are different brands… like GM and Cadilllac.
you could look them up in Yahoo Autos and there you can compare cars side by side to see all their differences and technical specifications
good luck and have fun
