Q: Nissan Xterra?
I am considering getting a nissan xterra from my dad. i originaly wanted a jeep but my dad said i could have the xterra. with the right parts and work can it be a farley good off roader. i live in big bear so i need something for the snow. it is a v-6 but its supercharged so its got some kick. any way do you think its an ok suv?

A: It is a strong mountian goat. With jeep like tire wheels and “Old Man Emu” suspension lift it will out preform many Jeeps. Just get used to high gasoline consumption while off roading a couple 5 gallon cans on brackets is reccomended. And roll bar inside the truck. Drive slowly off road and you will dive back home. Drive fast hit something roll over and pay huge repair bills and get a tow 20 miles back past Victorville. Apple Valley Arrowhead. I used to live in Upland.

I’m 15 years old and starting to think about which car I want to buy when I turn sixteen. I like to surf and bike so I heard a nissan xterra would be a good car for me. Of course it would also have to be able to get me to high school, anyone had any concerns or recommendations for this? I was thinking about a 2001-2003 ish depending on the price. Thanks!

A: Nissan xterra would be a fun car but you need to look at the reliability for the year you’re interested in because some were not very reliable and would be costly to maintain.

I am thinking of down grading to a Nissan Xterra 4×4 from my Chevy Tahoe 4×4. I am wondering how much better gas mileage the Xterra will get compared to the Tahoe? Any help would be great! Thanks!

A: 17 to 21 highway and much less around town 13 to 15 mpg so your really not saving very much fuel Boxy trucks just dont flow thru the air very well. Added weight of 4×4 and there you have it. You did not state if it was a 3.3 Liter 169hp. Engine or a 2005 and newer 4.0 liter motor 265hp the new motor is more powerful and just about the same MPG. By the way 2005 and newer Xterria’s earned Motor Trend 4X4 of the year 2005 and 2006 they are real mountain goats. Only a bit thirsty.

Q: How to recalibrate a 2000 nissan xterra speedometer?
I have a 2000 nissan xterra and am putting bigger tires I am looking for a speedometer recalibrater cant seem to find one for the 1st generation xterra online anybody know how to recalibrate it or where i can find a reclibrater?

A: The stock speedometer reads 5 to 10% fast so recalibration may not be as much a problem as you think. There are electronic speed modifiers and the old traditional change the gear on the speed sender method. Stock Xterria does not accept larger tires with out rubbing in front while turning. So better get that 4″ body lift installed or NO FEAR Pro Comp Suspension set up on there first.

Q: How does the Overdrive button work in my Nissan Xterra?
When I start my 2002 Nissan Xterra there is a light on the dash that comes on briefly and it says OD OFF. There is a button on my shift column that is supposed to be the overdrive button. When I hit the button, nothing happens. What is the point of this button. Is there supposed to be some type of indication that the OD is working.

A: The O/D Off light should come on when you push the button on your shifter. If it does not you may have a bad relay.

Q: Does the Nissan Xterra have a TRS input Audio jack in it?
I am planning on renting a Nissan Xtera and I want to know if there are Auxiliary Input jacks (for devices such as an Ipod) or if there is a TRS input Audio jack.

I want to be able to plug my Ipod into the car and a have a cord for Auxiliary input and a cord that will hook up through a TRS cable. If anyone knows what capabilities a Nissan Xterra has I would greatly appreciate it.

A: I am in Canada and the Xterra’s here do have an Ipod interface cable available for them, and two trim levels (Off road, SE) come stock with an Auxiliary input. If you are located in the USA, their trim levels may include more features. It might be best to call the rental company and ask them.

A: What trim line is it? You should check out KBB.com to book the private party value. I would price it around that maybe a little less. I tried to do it for you and came up with a price around $9,500. I may not have used the correct trim line and included all the options. That’s why I suggest you do it as well. Q: How do I remove the front speakers in my 05 Nissan Xterra?
I’m trying to figure out how to remove the front speakers (and later the rear) on my 05 Nissan Xterra. Do I have to remove the entire door panel? If so, how do I do that?

A: yes the entire door panel will have to be removed for this. remove all screws around the perimeter of the panel and from there its gonna take you lifting and pulling away from the door at the same time to remove the panel

Q: Can my 2008 NIssan Xterra 4×2 pull a vehicle using a tow dolly without any problems?
The vehicle towing capacity as shown on the drivers door is 5500, I would like to purchase a 2 wheel tow dolly, to tow different vehicles for a distance of about 60 miles once a week. Can my Nissan handle it? Nissan Xterra, Automatic, 4×2. Thanks

A: Just to be safe, i would weigh it or have someone give u a fairly accurate estimate. If you dont feel like doing that, my opinion is that you should be fine as long as the vehicle is of smaller size and it is mostly highway driving.

Make sure there are no steep hills or dirt/gravel roads you need to drive on.

You can buy a brand new truck right now very very inexpensivley due to the gas prices and car market. I reccommend looking into a V8.

Q: What is the hex socket size to remove the plug in a 2005 Nissan xterra rear end axle.?
The pinion seal is leaking in my wife’s Nissan Xterra and I need to add oil to the rear end differential. There is a plug which has to be removed using a hex type socket. Anyone know what size it is and if it’s metric or SAE? Thanks in advance. John.

Just bought a used 2001 Nissan Xterra and I was wondering what the front part of the roof rack is supposed to be used for? Also can it be removed?… It kinda makes it hard to wash the part underneath roof rack. Thanks for any information

A: Wind deflector or drop in lockable basket that is also available. Get a fleecey wash mit no one looks under that rack anyway.

Q: Are leather seats an option on the 2008 Nissan Xterra?
I know the 2008 Nissan Xterra doesn’t have an option for leather seats, but can you have them installed after market? Has anyone done that with success? Is the quality good?

A: Aftermarket leather seats are available for the Nissan Xterra with only one letdown… if you have the Side Airbags on the seats you can not have leather put over it.

Q: how much would a supercharger be to buy and install on a 2006 nissan xterra?
i need speed in a car. my dad has a nissan xterra that i could buy from him and its fairly quick for an suv but most of its acceleration happens at the higher RPMs in that car. so i figure if i could bring power to the lower rpms by putting in a super charger it could go from a 7.5 second car 0-60 to about a 6 plus some other upgrades that i may put on it.

my other option is just getting a used mustang GT or 350Z but i would be paying more since i could buy my dads xterra for cheap. probably less than 15 grand.

A: Unfortuately, it’s not quite so simple as bolting on a supercharger. You’ll have to make numerous modifications to make it work properly, and the cost to do so will run into thousands of dollars.

If you’re really determined to have a fast car, you’d be much better off buying what you want already built. By the time you finish spending on the Xterra to make a supercharger work, you would have spent less buying something already fast.
